“Sons of Bitche”

Captain Thomas Garahan of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 398th Infantry Regiment (100th Infantry Division, 7th U.S. Army) raises an American flag that was said to be made by a local French girl from a store in the commune of Bitche in northeast France.

The company was later referred to as the “Sons of Bitche” after liberating the region in northeast France (near the German border) amid the waning days of the Second World War in March 1945.
