Decades before a guy named Tiger came along, it was Palmer with his modest upbringing and everyman demeanor that changed the perception of golf from an elitist pastime to a sport that could become more accessible to the working classes, spurred in no small part by the development of public courses, many of which were designed by Palmer himself.

There were two kings from this era: Elvis was one, Arnie was the other.
