Six soldiers from Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Regiment, 5th Marine Division raised Old Glory at Iwo Jima 77 years ago today.

There were two American flags raised atop Mount Suribachi on this day in 1945. The famous shot (above) taken by AP photographer Joe Rosenthal was of the second flag-raising, in which a larger replacement flag was raised by a different set of Marines than those who raised the first.
