Portraits of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin were dumped in garbage containers once German reunification was complete in 1990.

Ironically this well-known picture was taken in the Hellersdorf borough of Berlin. Some 30 years later its current mayor is affiliated with Die Linke, or “The Left,” a caucus that resulted from a merger between the Party of Democratic Socialism and Labour & Social Justice, both of whom descended from the Socialist Unity Party of Germany, the Marxist-Leninist ruling party of the former socialist “workers’ and peasants’ state” of East Germany.
Some people never learn.
