The Big Three

(l to r) Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz — not sure about the guy on the right; it’s either Steve Avery, Denny Neagle, or Kevin Millwood

Maddux retired with 355 career wins, 3,371 strikeouts and four Cy Young Awards. His #31 was retired by both the Braves and the Cubs, for whom he also played for 10 seasons.

Glavine amassed 305 wins, 2,607 strikeouts and two Cy Young Awards in his career. And Smoltz retired with 213 wins, 154 saves, 3,084 strikeouts and a Cy Young Award.

All three were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility. That they won just one Series title for Atlanta is baffling.
