It’s still The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party

Florida and Georgia have matched up almost every year since 1926, and the game itself has been played in semi-neutral Jacksonville, Florida since 1933.

Conference officials dropped the rivalry’s long held nickname in 2006 due to concerns about alcohol abuse by students and other attendees. It was later renamed the War for the Oar, with the winning team claiming the Okefenokee Oar (whatever that is), which is presented to the winning university’s student body president — and, strangely, not to the guys who actually played — after the game.

They meet again today for the 98th or 99th time, depending on who you ask. The heavily favored Bulldogs enjoy an eight or nine-win edge in the all-time series (again, depending on who you ask), but it’ll be a party regardless of the outcome.
