The traditional match-up that came to be known as the Magnolia Bowl was played for the first time on December 3, 1894 (nearly 127 years ago). They play again today, during which Eli Manning’s #10 will be retired. It will hang in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium next to his father’s #18.

The grandfather who died prior to my birth was from the Baton Rouge area and graduated from LSU in 1940 (I think). The grandfather who helped raise me is from north Mississippi and attended Ole Miss before the circumstances of life beckoned him elsewhere. So this is a game of familial significance for me.

LSU leads the all-time series 63-40-4. An Ole Miss win today would be nice, but I’m good either way.
