Released 30 years ago today — I still listen like it came out 30 days ago — Metallica’s eponymous “Black Album” debuted at #1 in 10 countries and spent four consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 en route to becoming the best-selling record of the Nielsen SoundScan era, selling over 25 million copies worldwide to date.

The album also recently earned the distinction of becoming the second-longest-charting release in history, trailing only Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon.
Say what you want about Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Guns N’ Roses, RHCP or Soundgarden, but nothing recaptures the special feels of the early ‘90s like this. So embrace it, if you haven’t already, because music will probably never be this good again.
