Randy Rhoads played his final show 39 years ago today in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Ozzy and his band were en route to Rock Super Bowl XIV in Orlando when they stopped in Leesburg, about 50 miles from their destination, to fix the air conditioner in the tour bus.
While waiting, and without permission, bus driver Andrew Aycock (who was a licensed pilot) took a single-engine Beechcraft F35 registered to someone he didn’t even know. Although not fond of flying, Rhoads decided to join Aycock because he wanted to take some aerial photos of the countryside for his mother.

Aycock’s botched attempt to “buzz” the tour bus resulted in a fiery crash. Rhoads was just 25 years old.
