South Carolina disaffiliated from the Union 160 years ago today.
The Palmetto State was followed by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee. A four-year boogaloo that divided the nation in every way commenced soon thereafter.

Richard Jordan played Confederate Brig. General Lewis Armistead in the movie Gettysburg for his final role before he succumbed to cancer in 1993.

Armistead led his brigade to the farthest point reached by Southern forces during the war, typically referred to as the “High-water Mark of the Confederacy.” However Armistead was wounded in the charge and he died in a field hospital two days later.
