My initial venture into blogging began on a different platform way back on April 20, 2009 with a brief mission statement about my intentions, although consistent posting wasn’t established until the following November when I was compelled to write a pithy criticism of the handling a standout college football player from Oklahoma State named Dez Bryant had endured from the NCAA.
Bryant, for the record, went on to have a solid NFL career, principally with the Dallas Cowboys. It isn’t common for an athlete who wanders into the crosshairs of college sports’ largest governing body to end up half as fortunate.
My second stint ran almost uninterrupted from May 22, 2012 until the morning of September 2, 2020, nearly two months ago, when I was notified that my blog had been unceremoniously terminated.
Four inquiries to uncover the reason behind the deletion of my little piece of cyberspace yielded nothing beyond an automated response.
The cancel culture that now dominates every facet of the Web had claimed another scalp. Consequently, for whatever undisclosed reason(s), this internet sojourner was not afforded a chance to bid farewell to a modest following of almost 1,900 people that built gradually over eight years.
From the beginning, this thing called blogging for me amounted to little more than a mildly cathartic means of connection and expression.
It’s nearly midnight on October 29 as I write this, so what the hell — let’s do it again.
